Channel Manager: what it is and how it works

A Channel Manager is software that coordinates a property’s availability and rates across connected booking portals. It reduces manual updates on each channel and helps keep room inventory consistent.

How does it work in practice?

The property sets up rooms, types and rate plans and links them to corresponding portal entries. When availability or prices change, the connection distributes the supported data. Update methods depend on the portal and active integration.

What is the difference between PMS, Channel Manager and Booking Engine?

  • The PMS organises bookings and daily property operations.
  • The Channel Manager coordinates distribution across sales channels.
  • The Booking Engine enables booking from the official website.

Does it completely eliminate overbooking?

It helps reduce the risk but does not eliminate it in all cases. Room setup, entered availability, connection status and change management must be correct. It’s useful to define a procedure to check for anomalies.

What to ask during a demo?

Check the list of supported portals, what data is exchanged and how new bookings, changes and cancellations are handled. Test a case from your property rather than just viewing a screen.

Discover the portals integrated with the Persefone Channel Manager or speak with the team.
